OUR MISSION| “Impacting the lives of children by encouraging and equipping single fathers to be intentional leaders in their own lives and in the lives of their children.”

ABOUT| Who We Are

A Fathers walk

A Father’s Walk was founded in April of 2008 by Matt Haviland. Having been a single father for over 9 years, Matt understands the struggles single dads (both full and noncustodial) encounter on a daily basis. He is someone who lives “in the trenches” regularly and has a burning passion to help other single dads overcome their trials; to grow and succeed in becoming the father God always meant for them to be.

Matt grew up in a single parent household himself, living with his mom. He saw his dad on a somewhat regular basis. Still, the lack of a full time father figure and not being brought up in a Christian household ultimately led to a self-destructive path of drinking, drugs, and sexual immorality. In 2006 he became a father himself. The first few years of his daughter’s life were extremely stressful: physically, emotionally, and financially. He had begun attending church in 2001, but never really allowed for God to move in his life the way he should. When his daughter was about 8 months old, Matt made the one decision that would change his life (and his daughter’s) forever. On January 7, 2007 he completely surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized a few months later. The following year, God gave him the vision for A Father’s Walk. Since then, the ministry has continued to grow and flourish and Matt is now fully committed to his relationship with Jesus, his daughter, and his mission to help change generations by leading single dads in Christ.

A Father’s Walk is a ministry dedicated specifically to this vision. We are a hub, a resource, and with God’s leading- an inspiration to other dads as to the saving grace and restoration that only faith in our Lord can provide. Jesus tells us in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” That is our prayer for you: that no matter how hard or impossible it may seem right now, Dad, you CAN be the man and father God always intended you to be. So won’t you join us? Come and take a look through our site. Explore the various resources we provide and how you can get more involved. Use this information, as well as the guidance of other strong Christian men and faith in Christ to help produce generational blessings in your own life that will last for years to come. Thank you for locking arms with us, Dad. You are simply irreplaceable in your children’s life- and absolutely invaluable in God’s Kingdom! God bless you all.

The Daddy Gap

BOOK| Description

Upon hearing the news that his father has gone to jail, a six-year-old boy poses the question of this generation: “Who’s going to take my Dad’s place?” The Daddy Gap takes an uncensored look at the distress so many fatherless families are in and provides desperately needed answers about how God responds to this question and how the Church should as well. Dawn Walker and Matt Haviland build a compelling case that not only are single parent families the “widows and orphans” of this generation, but that it is the Church, not the government, that should be responsible to care for them. Drawing from their own journeys as single parents, Dawn and Matt give heartfelt encouragement to these often marginalized families by sharing how God really sees them, loves them, and wants to heal and restore them. Full of rich insights and lavish grace, they also offer some hard truths about what redemption and restoration really require. Most importantly, they clear a path to help all wounded sons and daughters discover the Father they’ve always wanted and who has always wanted them.
